Smart City initiative is an attempt to identify the technologies that can solve problems which cities must confront, such as traffic congestion, energy crisis, poor air quality and health issues, and hence create a network of partner cities to share the ideas for future progress. A city is considered smart when its social, economic and physical infrastructure is intelligent. To function, Smart City technologies require the processing of Big Data. On the other hand, Artifical Intelligence (AI) refers to various methods for using a non-human system to learn from experience and imitate human intelligent behaviour. AI can efficiently sift through large quantities of Big Data to generate data predictions and cost-effective solutions to fuel Smart City technologies.

A smart city will be able to create employment opportunities, attract investment and people due to its unique quality of life. Smart cities are able to nurture social , environmental and financial sustainability, resulting in economic growth and high quality of life. There are six dimensions of a smart city: smart economy; smart mobility; smart environment; smart people; smart living; and, finally, smart governance. Improving these dimensions to enhance the overall quality of the city requires analysis of large volumes of unstructured data generated from different sectors of the city by means of big data analytics. Artificial Intelligence and Smart Cities offers a comprehensive view of how cities are evolving as smart ecosystems through the convergence of technologies incorporating machine learning and neural network capabilities, geospatial intelligence, data analytics and visualization, sensors, and smart connected objects.Artificial Intelligence and Smart Cities brings a multidisciplinary, integrated approach, examining how the digital and physical worlds are converging, and how a new combination of human and machine intelligence is transforming the experience of the urban environment. It presents a fresh holistic understanding of smart cities through an interconnected stream of theory, planning and design methodologies, system architecture, and the application of smart city functions, with the ultimate purpose of making cities more liveable, sustainable, and self-sufficient.

The Second international workshop On Artificial Intelligence and Smart city Applications (IWAISCA22)  aims to bring together researchers and academic scientists to exchange their experiences and research results on all aspects of Artifical Intelligence. It is also an opportunity to discuss and interchange about the real needs of Smart Cities in order to contribute in realizing smart communities of the future. The Workshop covers all topics of Smart cities, Artifical Intelligence and Big Data. Papers with novel contributions are encouraged for submission.
